Tomaree
High School is a unique educational facility that incorporates Tomaree High School, Tomaree Public School and the Tomaree Campus of the
Hunter Institute of Technology (TAFE). There are over 1800 people from
the ages 5 to 70+ attending the complex each day. A distinct feature
which separates it from most other educational institutions is in the
co-operation and collaboration between the three departments of this
facility.
The first primary school was
established in Nelson Bay in 1886. As the primary school grew a
secondary department was added and became Nelson Bay Central School in
1955. The Central School transferred to the old Nelson Bay High School site
in 1965. Nelson
Bay Central School became a High School when it was was gazetted in 1975. Nelson Bay High
School transferred to the new site at Salamander Bay in July 1998 and
became known as Tomaree High School.
Tomaree
High School provides a comprehensive education to the youth of the
Tomaree Peninsula where emphasis is placed on academic results, student welfare, sporting and social development, and the use of technology in
learning in an ordered student friendly environment.
