| In 2005, 137
students sat for HSC examinations. Students received HSC marks in each
course obtained by adding 50% of their in-school assessment and 50% of
their HSC exam mark. Students were placed in one of six achievement
bands (in 2 unit courses) with Band 6 being the highest. (It is
important to realise that, whilst Band 6 represents the highest band of
achievement in any given subject, it is not valid to equate Band 6
results between any two particular subjects.)
English
Results in advanced
English were well above state average with 10.0% of students scoring
Band 6 compared to 8.0% across the state. Combined Bands 5 and 6 school
results were 52.0% compared to 45.9% for the state. All advanced English
students scored a Band 4, 5 or 6 compared with 90.0% for the state.
Mathematics
Whilst general
mathematics results were at the state average, 27.0% of students
achieved either a Band 5 or 6 result compared to 23.4% for the state.
Sciences
Biology and physics
results were well above the state average, whilst results in chemistry,
senior science, earth and environmental science and agriculture were
below state average. In biology, 20.0% of students achieved a Band 6
compared with 8.3% for the state and in physics 43.8% achieved a Band 5
or 6 compared with 36.3% for the state.
Human society
and its environment (HSIE)
Results in history extension were well
above the state average with 80.0% of students achieving in the top two
bands compared with 53.5% for the state.
Technology and
applied studies
Results in textiles and design, design and
technology and industrial technology were significantly above state
average, with 62.5% of students achieving a Band 5 or 6 in textiles and
design compared with 42.4% for the state. Information processes and
technology, food technology and engineering studies performed above the
state average, with 20.0% of food technology students achieving a Band
6, compared with 7.3% for the state, and 60.0% of engineering studies
students achieving a Band 5 or 6 result compared with 37.9% for the
state.
Creative and
performing arts
Visual Arts results were well above state
average with 75.0% of students achieving a Band 5 or 6 compared with
51.4% for the state.
Personal
development, health and physical education
Community and family studies students
performed significantly above state average with 12.5% achieving a Band
6 compared with 4.0% for the state.
