The Arts 2005

The school provides a broad range of artistic pursuits including visual art, visual design, ceramics, photography and film production as well as performance activities such as dance, drama and music.

Year 12 students submitted Higher School Certificate (HSC) practical work that was selected for exhibition in ArtExpress. Art students exhibited their work at parent teacher nights, at the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) night and at the School Expo in Term 4.

Thirteen drama students were selected to participate in the Hunter Drama Camp, with 2 students selected to attend the State Drama Camp. Year 9, 10 and 11 drama students performed in Starstruck. Year 11 drama students competed in the Mental Health Play Festival and were exemplary ambassadors for our school.

A Year 12 student and a teacher were successful in auditioning to be part of a workshop run by Home and Away director Scott Hartford in Sydney. HSC drama students worked in an after school workshop with Australian actor Grant Thomas.

Year 9 students and a Year 10 student were selected to perform as part of the Hunter Ensemble at the Seymour Centre in Sydney. Music students performed for the public at a number of venues and events including the Tomaree Peninsula Music Festival, the Rotary Club of Nelson Bay, the Port Stephens Whale Festival, and the Paterson Citizen of the Year Award ceremony.

Music students managed the lighting and sound for numerous assemblies and other community events held at the Tomaree Education Centre (TEC). The standard of their work was outstanding.

Members of our school rock band, One Man Down, won the Hunter Valley Battle of the Bands and reached the semi-final of music week ‘Let There be School Rock’ competition.
